Development of a tool for dynamic assessment of technology-mediated communication tasks for adults with TBI
What is the aim of the study?
The aim of this study is work out what people with TBI and those around them find important about technology and communication. Currently most assessments are pen and paper. We want to come up with a list of tasks that are important, such as using social media, online shopping, telehealth etc. We also want to know how this assessment tool should be designed.
About the study
This study will have two stages. The first stage is interviews. The second stage is a series of questionnaires. Everything will happen virtually/online but face-to-face can be offered as needed for Sydney residents only. Participants can choose to only do the questionnaires or do both interviews and questionnaires, depending on their time commitment. They will be asked questions about their experiences with technology and rehabilitation.
Who can participate?
Person with lived experience of TBI
Currently 18+ years
Anytime post-onset of injury
Interested in talking about their experiences with speech therapy
Lives in Australia
Friend/family/significant other/carer of someone with TBI
Regularly provides informal support to someone with TBI
At least 1 year of experience providing support
Lives in Australia
Speech pathologists
At least 2 years of experience working with people with TBI
Currently practising as a speech pathologist
Lives in Australia or other English-speaking countries (e.g. US, UK, NZ)
What will happen to your information?
All information will be treated confidentially and stored in a secure cloud location that will only be accessed by the research team. All participants will be assigned a number under which all research data (audio recordings, transcripts, questionnaire responses) will be recorded once de-identified. Personal information that corresponds to each participant will be stored in a separate, secure location.
It is anticipated that the results of this research study will be published and presented. Information about participants will be provided in a way that they cannot be identified.
When will the study conclude?
The study will conclude on the 30 November 2024
