Technology Enabled Homes for People with Spinal Cord Injury and Traumatic Brain Injury
What is the aim of the study?
This research aims to discover how people with spinal cord injury (SCI) or traumatic brain injury (TBI) use electronic technology in their homes for activities of daily living.
About the study
There are two parts in this study. In part 1, you will complete a brief survey and participate in two interviews with one or two of the researchers. Interviews may be completed in-person or remotely and will be conducted on a date and time that suits you. Part 2 will occur after the interviews. This will involve attendance at a round table workshop called a World Café. Here the researchers will further explore technology use with the aim of identifying the key principles of using technology in the home, as well as sharing with the wider community. Participation in both parts is voluntary and can be in person or online.
Who can participate?
We are seeking volunteers to take part in this study who are 18 years or older, have either a spinal cord injury or a traumatic brain injury, or are the guardian or person authorised by law of a person with TBI. You must also have experience using electronic technology in the home to support activities of daily living.
What will happen to your information?
Data will be stored on the UniSC secure research drive per ethics requirements. Only researchers on this project will have access to your data. Recorded transcripts will be deidentified and a pseudonym used in research findings shared from this project.
When will the study conclude?
31st October 2025
